Managing Unidentified and Unknown Receipts in Logistics
There are certain scenarios that play out to all interior design and white glove transport logistics providers around the world. One of them is known as an unidentified or unknown receptor. This is where a carrier shows up and just unloads a shipment consigned to a logistics provider. There is no indication who it’s for and one can’t figure it out based on the supplier. But the truck is there and the shipment needs to be inspected and registered.
Art Manager has been set up to handle these scenarios efficiently. Here are the main steps:
Office staff Set up one job for unidentified receipts – depending on the frequency of such shipments, one sets up a job for each day, week or a month.
When an unidentified receipt comes in, warehouse staff process it in the unknown receipt job as if it were a regular receive-in, starting with label printing, capture all carrier information by taking photos of the documents and upload scans of the paperwork to the corresponding receive-in in Art Manager.
When the relevant projects get identified, client managers have two options – move the entire receive-in to the right project or assign received items to different projects.
Regardless of the scenario, Art Manager will retain the item numbers generated in the unidentified receipt job or have new item numbers generated based on the project number. The latter is better if the inventory will stay in storage for a while.
Office/warehouse staff reprint the labels which will now have the appropriate project attributes.
